Anti-photos (Discussion)

oLahav saidFri, 13 Jun 2008 16:16:50 -0000 ( Link )

I realize this may not be the best community to post this on, but nonetheless…

Does anybody else know of people who HATE photography?

The mild cases just hate being photographed. The basket cases have a whole theory of how photography is the art of the devil (red eyes are proof!) and won’t even let you bring a camera into the room.

Any experiences to share here? Explanations of this phenomenon? Anything?

Well, the red-eye effect is actually the flash light going through your iris and bouncing off the back off your eyeball. The flash is just lighting up all that red goo-y stuff back there. Pleasant, eh?

I don’t think anyone hates photography. I know most people dislike having the camera shoved in their faces. I hate having bad photos taken of me, but I enjoy taking photos. My girlfriend Jolene dislikes when I take pictures of her but she loves it when a good photo of her turns out.

The only religious anti-photo stuff I’ve heard is that a photograph steals your soul. Which is a load of crap if you know any sort of science at all.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying there isn’t a possibility that there are souls and all that. Who knows right? World is a funny place! I am just saying it’s pretty far fetched for anyone who knows the theory behind photography to even begin to believe that photography can steal your soul. A photo is comprised of light variations and color. If photography at all required energy to produce and image, and not just and only light. They may have a leg to stand on.

Saying that, often those who believe that a photo steals your soul, or in photophobia, are not very technically savvy.

The camera translates light energy as it is reflected off the subject. Now an X ray, on the other hand, that’s some serious juju! Those babies go right through you and beyond!
