How to capture babies photographs?
decorate the camera with sparkly things – babies always look at sparkly things and smile at them.
that’s actually a really good idea! It’s all about association – if you can get the baby to associate the camera with something they really like, they will like the camera.
Another idea would be to put their favourite toy on top of the camera so they smile towards the camera – bingo! you’ve got a picture!
you can try making funny sounds – this will surely make the baby laugh; visual cues might not work at time, but funny sounds always do :D
The perfect lighting for photographing babies is natural light. Flash can make a baby scream and screaming babies do not make good photos. If you can find a large window on a bright but cloudy day you have the ideal location. If it happens to be a sunny day use a net curtain to turn the window into a giant soft box. Use a reflector to bounce the light back if you need to fill shadows and avoid the use of flash fill.
I’ve always found that Mums voice and a sqeeky toy work best for getting baby to look in the direction you want so, give Mum the sqeeky toy and direct her. Babies expressions change very quickly so take lots of shots. Have lots of cushions available to prop up baby and soft pastel coloured blankets or towels to use as bacgrounds wraps etc. Use a lens around 85-105mm so you can give the baby some space. Strange person with big black camera to close = screaming baby. After that it’s down to your creativity to capture those “Oh sooooo cute” photos.
